Rita Palmeira de Oliveira graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2005 by the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto, Portugal. In 2009 she completed her master degree by the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto, Portugal and in 2015 completed her PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences – Pharmaceutical Technology by the University of Beira Interior (UBI).
From 2008 to 2015 was invited assistant at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Beira Interior. Since October 2015 she is invited professor at UBI, collaborating in the galenic pharmacy and pharmaceutical technology unit. She supervises master and PhD students in Pharmaceutical Sciences and biomedicine. She is one of the two co-founders of a spinoff company, Labfit (founded in 2012) that is located at UBIMedical, UBI´s companies incubator building. Since 2016 she is an integrated member of Health Sciences Research Centre of University of Beira Interior (CICS – UBI). She is also a Hospital Pharmacist Specialist recognized by the Portuguese Pharmacists College since 2011. Her main research areas of interest are vaginal drug delivery systems, probiotics, essential oils and plant extracts, patient safety, medication reconciliation and potentially inappropriate medication for the elderly. In September 2017 she will begin a Post-doc research project on the development of in vitro vaginal models for the characterization of probiotics and other vaginal products.
Rita Palmeira de Oliveira published 23 papers in international peer reviewed journals, 4 book chapters, 4 patents (1 national, 3 international) and was theme editor of a special issue on «Vaginal Drug Delivery» of the journal Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews. Moreover Rita completed the supervision of 22 MSc students and is at present supervising 7 MSc and 1 PhD students being one financially supported by a FCT scholarship.
